State’s high court to hear Turk case

The Arkansas Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the John W. Turk Power Plant near Fulton beginning at 9 a.m. April 15 in Little Rock. The case, Hempstead Co. Hunting Club, Inc. and Schultz Family Management Co. v. Arkansas Public Service Commission, Southwestern Electric Power Co., American Electric Power Co. involves the Public Service Commission’s decision to grant the approval of a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need for the Turk Power Plant, a coal-fired plant now under construction. “As we said in our October news release, this is an important case, both for the Turk Plant and for the process used to approve major utilities projects in Arkansas for more than 30 years,” said Peter Main, principal communication consultant for SWEPCO. “We believe the record will show that the approval process was correct and that the Turk Plant approval should stand.”
