Local housing market is thriving

Study: Texarkana’s housing starts are up 48 percent

In a study by Moody’s Economy.com and msnbc.com, Texarkana’s single and multi-family housing starts are up 48 percent. The study monitored housing starts in a three-month period between April 2008 to April 2009. But while the study shows an increase, local experts aren’t so sure housing starts have gone up quite that much. “There’s very little new construction going on, but don’t get me wrong—we’re doing better than the rest of the country,” said Bobby Howell, board member of the Texarkana Home Builders Association. Howell is also the owner of Twin City Title Co. “In my opinion, we’re between 20 and 40 percent but not at 48 percent,” Howell added.
