Josephine Matthews-Oliver, 98, of Dallas, formerly of Queen City, Texas, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in a Dallas hospital.

Mrs. Oliver was born March 31, 1914, in Macon, Ga. She was a member of Golden Gate Baptist Church where she was a former usher board president and youth department sponsor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentice Oliver Sr.; and two sons, Prentice Oliver Jr. and Raymond Oliver Sr.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Willie J. and Mattie Oliver of Pittsburg, Texas; two daughters, Rosie Mae Oliver of Queen City and Lillie Mae Howard of Dallas; 17 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Golden Gate Baptist Church with the Revs. Raymond Oliver and James Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Queen City under direction of Haynes Mortuary.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
