Nicolas Maduro raises his fist as he dons the presidential sash after he was sworn in as Venezuela’s president at the National Assembly on Friday in Caracas. Late President Hugo Chavez designated Vice President Maduro as his successor before he died Tuesday of cancer.
CARACAS, Venezuela—Nicolas Maduro was sworn in Friday as Venezuela’s acting president, using the occasion to launch blistering attacks on the U.S. as well as the political opposition, which objected that the ceremony violated the country’s constitution.
