TTPD officer dies after being struck by vehicle in the line of duty
Texarkana, Texas, police officer William Jason Sprague has died as a result of injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle Friday.
Sprague, 30, died Saturday morning.
Sprague was taken to a local hospital on Friday after being struck by a sport utility vehicle around 12:30 a.m. at Grady T. Wallace Park.
Sgt. Steve Shelley, Texarkana, Texas, Police Department spokesman, said Sprague was the first officer to respond to a disturbance involving approximately 100 people at the park.
Justin Sanders, 21, was arrested Friday at the Bi-State Justice Center following an interview with detectives.
As Sprague was attempting to make contact with a silver SUV leaving the scene, the SUV struck him, Shelley said.
The SUV did not stop after striking the officer, and police believed Sanders was behind the wheel.
