About 4,700 people in Sevier County were without power early Wednesday morning because of an equipment failure at a De Queen substation, an official said.

The outage began at 4:48 p.m. and power was restored at 8:04 a.m. Wednesday, said Scott McCloud AEP/SWEPCO spokesman.

The customers receive power from Southwest Arkansas REA but it was equipment failure at SWEPCO's De Queen substation that led to the outage.

There were six circuits at the De Queen substation involving 12,000 volt lines and 34,000 volt lines that were responsible for the outage, McCloud said.

He said repairs were made as rapidly as possible.
