A vacant building at 1424 N. State Line Ave. suffered heavy damage late Monday, according to reports. The fire was dispatched about 10:30 p.m. Monday and was under control about 15-20 minutes after firefighters arrived, said Ginger Lee, Texarkana, Ark., Fire Department battalion chief. As of 11:15 p.m. Monday, firefighters were still putting out hot spots so the cause of the blaze could be investigated, Lee said. The single-story, wood frame building once operated as La Villita restaurant and later as a used car lot. The building that caught fire is just north of the former Benita's Blossoms. The building suffered heavy damage in the back and officials believe the blaze started in the southeastern corner. No one was injured in the blaze, Lee said. Smoke from the fire drifted as far as Senator Street. See the Gazette's Website through Tuesday for any updates and coverage in Wednesday's editions,
