Father-son driving team dead after 18-wheeler hauling vehicles crashes, catches fire
A father and son are dead after an 18-wheeler tractor trailer hauling several vehicles apparently crashed and caught fire early Friday at Interstate 30 and Farm to Market Road 2148.
State troopers say 46-year-old Brian Witkowski and 21-year-old James Witkowski were a father-son driving team out of Edison, N.J.
Law enforcement and fire crews were dispatched about 4:30 a.m. and found the 18 wheeler and several of the vehicles it was carrying on fire. Firefighters reported seeing tires exploding when they arrived.
The blaze was under control about 30 minutes afterward.
The truck was hauling some Hondas and headed westbound just northwest of Texarkana.
The westbound lane of I-30 was closed until approximately 5:15 a.m. Officials believe the frontage road could be closed all day.
Texas Department of Public Safety, C5 Volunteer Fire Department and Nash fire department are among the responding agencies.
