Fleeing woman abandons children after involvment in two traffic crashes
A woman involved in two wrecks, one in Arkansas and one in Texas, on Tuesday left the scene of both wrecks with five children and she was later arrested after abandoning the children near the second wreck scene, an official said.
The woman initially crashed into a vehicle in Texarkana, Ark., got out of her vehicle to talk to the other drivers and fled the scene when she saw police officers responding to the scene, a police official said.
She jumped into her vehicle, in which five children, all under the age of 6 years, were riding, and fled.
Approximately an hour later, a Texarkana, Texas, Police Department officer spotted the woman’s vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. Again, the woman fled, subsequently causing another crash.
According to TTPD reports, the woman exited her vehicle “carrying and dragging” the children with her as she fled on foot.
When TTPD officers cornered her in an alleyway, the woman continued running, leaving the children behind, said Sgt. Aaron Brower, TTPD public information officer.
