Artis Thomas Golston Sr., 81, of Hooks, Texas, died Monday, July 7, 2014, in a local nursing home.

Mr. Golston was born Aug. 11, 1932, in Garland, Ark. He was a retired laborer with Lone Star Army Ammunition and a deacon, former church secretary and member of Leary Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Golston of Hooks; five sons, Efran Golston of Memphis, Tenn., Byron Golston and Reginald Winters of Dallas, James Winters of Tyler, Texas, and William Winters of Texarkana; four daughters, Wanda “Treece” Golston-Williams of Atlanta, Ga., Cynthia Golston of Arlington, Texas, and Brenda Golston and Bonita Winters of Texarkana; one sister, Earnestine Pree-Walker of Texarkana; 25 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Leary Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under direction of Haynes Mortuary.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
