Man arrested on robbery, sexual assault charges
A Texarkana, Texas, man was arrested early Wednesday on felony charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated sexual assault, an official said.
Myron Stewart, 39, was arrested at a convenience store in the 5100 block of Summerhill Road after they responded to a call of a disturbance at a nearby motel, said Sgt. Shawn Vaughn, Texarkana, Texas, Police Department spokesman.
Officers were dispatched to a motel in the 1900 block of St. Michael Drive about 2 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call from a third party about a disturbance in one of the rooms.
Upon arrival, officers were told that Stewart came to the room where he knew the occupants.
Following a brief argument, Stewart became agitated and allegedly produced a revolver, Vaughn said.
Stewart allegedly stole a cell phone from one person in the room and then allegedly forced the female victim to perform a sexual act on him. Vaughn said.
Stewart and the victim were located a few minutes later by officers at a convenience store across the street. The victim told officers that Stewart had hidden the pistol outside another nearby business when he saw a police car drive past. The gun was located by officers, Vaughn said.
Stewart was arrested and booked into jail on the felony charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated sexual assault. The incident remains under investigation and additional charges against Stewart are likely, Vaughn said.
Two other local occupants of the motel room had outstanding felony warrants and were also arrested.
