Longtime TC instructor dies while hiking in California
The body of a longtime Texarkana College instructor has been found near the peak of Mount Whitney, where he was hiking on vacation with his wife.
Dawson Johnson, 75, was reported missing Wednesday morning in Sequoia National Park in California after he did not return from a trip to the mountain the previous day.
His longtime coworker and friend Dianna Kinsey said Johnson and his wife, Sandra, had been hiking the Pacific Crest Trail since TC classes ended in May and were nearing the end of their 700-mile journey.
She said his wife became worried when he did not return to camp on Tuesday night, and she reported him missing Wednesday morning.
His body was found and positively identified on Thursday.
