Smith will not seek second term as Texarkana, Ark., mayor
Texarkana, Ark., Mayor Wayne Smith announced on Monday he will not seek re-election to the post in the November election.
Smith's made the announcement at a Monday evening press conference at City Hall about a half hour before the Board of Directors meeting.
Smith has recently taken a managerial position at New Haven Golf Club.
Smith began serving his four-year term as mayor on Jan. 1, 2011 and his last day in the elected position will be Dec. 31.
Last month, David Haak, a former state representative and city board of directors member, announced he will seek the mayor's post in the November election.
Divisiveness among city leaders over several issues has occurred in the last year or so.
Earlier this year, Smith announced he would seek the Miller County tax collector's position in the November election. However, he later announced he would seek re-election to the mayoral post as many people had asked him to stay on as mayor.
