Texarkana, Ark., has full slate of contested races in November election
Texarkana, Ark., will have contested races in all four positions on the November ballot, according to records.
Only one incumbent has filed for re-election.
As of the noon deadline Friday for filing, David Haak and Ward 1 Director Ruth Penney-Bell have filed to run as mayor of Texarkana, Ark. They are vying for a position vacated by Mayor Wayne Smith.
The term for mayor and board members ends Dec. 31. The election is Nov. 4.
Longtime Ward 3 Director Londell Williams, who has held the spot since 1977, has refiled for re-election. Tim Johnson has also filed for that spot.
Terry Ragsdale and Travis Odom filed for the Ward 4 position. This position is now held by Chad Dowd, who was appointed in 2005.
Barbara Miner, Marvin Williams and Danny Jewell have filed for the Ward 5 position held by Mike Jones. Jones was appointed in 2008.
Fifty signatures from residents who live and vote in city limits are required for all candidates who file.
