TEXARKANA -- Harvest Texarkana is partnering with Walmart and Sam's Club to fight hunger.
For the 11th straight year, all U.S. Walmart stores and Sam's Clubs are launching the "Fight Hunger. Spark Change." campaign, with the goal of providing people facing hunger with access to the food and resources they need to thrive. Since its inception in 2014, the campaign has generated more than $186 million and helped secure nearly 1.9 billion meals for the Feeding America network of local food banks.
"For over a decade, our food bank has relied on the support of our Walmart and Sam's Club partners, who have contributed over 1 million pounds of food annually to fight hunger in southwest Arkansas and northeast Texas," said Camille Wrinkle, CEO of Harvest Regional Food Bank. "During times of economic challenges, their generosity has been especially critical in helping us feed the twenty percent of individuals struggling with hunger in our community."
In 2022, 44 million people -- one in seven people -- faced food insecurity in the U.S., according to Harvest Texarkana.
"Those are the highest numbers in a decade, underscoring the need for more charitable food assistance in our community and beyond," Wrinkle said.
The campaign will run in stores and online through April 29, with three ways for shoppers to participate:
by donating at check-out in stores or round up at Walmart.com and the Walmart app.
by purchasing participating products in-store or online at Walmart.com or SamsClub.com. For each purchase of a participating product, the supplier will donate the monetary equivalent of at least one meal (10 cents) on behalf of a Feeding America partner food bank at Walmart and five meals (50 cents) at Sam's Club.
