TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Dollar Day will be Sunday as the 79th annual Four States Fair and Rodeo concludes.

The promotional day, which allows fairgoers to pay $1 per ride, originally was scheduled for Tuesday. Heavy rains earlier in the week washed away those plans, forcing the fair to close Tuesday and Wednesday.

Visitors also have the option of purchasing a $35 wristband for unlimited rides.

Lisa Garner, Four States Fair executive director, said along with Dollar Day, the midway will open at 11 a.m. instead of the typical 1 p.m. Sunday start. She said it is a way for the fair and operator Amusement Midway Providers to say thank you to the community for supporting the annual event.

Thursday was the first full day of the fair since the rain closure. It also was Back the Badge night, when first responders, military personnel, police and firefighters could show their badge and get admission for themselves and up to three others.

"We had a great crowd out on the midway. Lots of people came out and enjoyed a fun night. It was very peaceful, obviously, because we had police and firemen," Garner said with a chuckle.

On April 7, a teenager was arrested in the fairgrounds parking lot after allegedly firing a gun following a reported fight between juveniles.

The 79th annual Four States Fair and Rodeo ends Sunday.
