Last Monday was a big day for everyone with the total solar eclipse.

There were plenty of festivities here in Texarkana and in other communities along the path. Lots of folks had lost of fun.

Well, tomorrow another Monday. And for many Americans it's not something they particularly feel like celebrating.

Yes, it's that time again. Tax Day 2024. The deadline to file your federal income tax return.

Taxpayers ahve until 11:59 pm tomorrow to file a return or Form 4868 to get an automatic six-month extension.

Keep in mind, though, if you owe the IRS, that money is still due April 15. The extension is just for filing a return.

And those who owe are most affected by today. We imagine most expecting a refund filed weeks ago.

Many of our more seasoned readers can remember when Tax Day could be quite stressful. So many people waited until the last minute to get their returns in the mail and postmarked before the deadline there would often be long lines at the post office.

Since the advent of electronic filing, that's changed. But there will still be those who put it off until the final hour approaches and will have to head for the post office to get the job done.

If you're one of them, be sure you do get it done. No one enjoys paying taxes. But having to cough up even more money in penalties and interest for filing and paying late is worse. So if you have put off this yearly unpleasant task, it's time to face the music.
