CANTON, Texas -- Pleasant Grove tied with Celina for third place in the Class 4A, Region II golf tournament at Van Zandt Country Club, then the Hawks lost to the Bobcats in a playoff.
"Even though we missed the opportunity to advance, I'm still very proud of how the boys played and perseverance they all showed these past two days," said Hawks golf coach Ryan Romero.
"We did have Junior Power advance, shooting a 69 in the final round. He was the first individual qualifier and fourth-place medalist. We're ready to put some hard work in these next couple weeks to get him ready for state, I feel he has a great chance to win as an individual."
Pleasant Grove's Morgan Formes carded a first-round 99 in the girls' regional at Van Zandt CC. She will play her final round today.
Bass Tournament
Texas High second
LAKE TAWAKONI, Texas -- Texas High finished second at the Texas High School Bass Association regional tournament at Lake Tawakoni this weekend.
The event had 63 schools and 204 teams competing.
Texas High's teams finished in seventh: Zach Fulmer and Landon Harvey; 11th: Brayden Burgess and Jackson Carter; and 12th: Ethan Jones and Denver Dennard.
The top teams advance to the state tournament May 17-18 on Lake Palestine.
