Prep Baseball: Liberty-Eylau, Pleasant Grove post wins at Hallsville tournament

HALLSVILLE, Texas -- Liberty-Eylau split its Friday games at the Hallsville Classic baseball tournament, beating host Hallsville and falling to Lindale.

Liberty-Eylau (8-4-1) defeated the host team, 5-2, after bringing home three runs in the final inning in a 2-2 tie. Hallsville scored all of its runs in the first, while L-E answered with one in the third and one in the fifth and finished the rally in the eighth.

W.T. Jones, Triston Haugh, and Brittan Pipes, the Leopards' 1-3 hitters, recorded all three RBIs in the win. Haugh belted a double, and Pipes, Collin Evans, Maddox Moore, and Will Tipton each had a hit.

Haugh pitched five solid innings on the mound, striking out eight, walking two, and allowing two runs on five hits. Pipes came in for relief, where he fanned two, walked two, and allowed just one hit in his three innings of work.

Hallsville committed three errors in the game.

In Friday's other contest, Lindale rallied past Liberty-Eylau, 6-5, in walk-off fashion.

"We lost in the last inning, but we feel like we are headed the right direction," said Leopards coach Zach Fowler. "(We) just need to keep putting ourselves in the right place, and good things will happen. "

Leadoff hitter W.T. Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate, with a double and a run scored in the loss. Gabe Jarvis, who had a triple, finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Jones also got the nod on the bump. He struck out four Lindale batters while walking one and allowed six runs -- five earned -- and 10 hits.

Pleasant Grove 8, Jacksonville 0

HALLSVILLE, Texas -- Pleasant Grove is back to playing like, well, Pleasant Grove.

The Hawks won their second straight game as pitcher Luke Flanagan tossed a 1-hit shutout over Jacksonville, 8-0, Friday in the Hallsville baseball tournament.

Seven Hawks recorded a hit, with Cade Martin and Landon West having two, including a double each. Jace Elrod belted a home run in the win, and teammates Jarrett Halter and Brenton Clark doubled.

With the win, Pleasant Grove moves to 4-7-1 on the season, while Jacksonville falls to 4-6-1.
