TEXARKANA, Ark.-- The Texarkana Area Veterans Council is preparing to host its first Veterans Spring Fling.

The event will feature a variety of vendors, live music and food. For the kids, there will be bounce houses, corn hole boards and much more.

"The purpose of this event is to bring veterans and their families together for camaraderie and fellowship," local veteran Tom Ornberg said.

The event is free, but the organization is accepting donations.

"Hopefully, we can get veterans out of their homes, especially the ones who do not get out much, and discover there are other like-minded veterans out there who they can enjoy their company," Ornberg said.

The bloodmobile will be there if anyone would like to donate blood, and the Red Cross is offering free smoke alarm installments in homes.

Ornberg also facilitates the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4562 support group, which meets at 5 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month.

The Veterans Spring Fling is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Billy T. Norton VFW Post 4562, 4700 E. Ninth St.
