Cheers and Jeers
JEERS: To former President Bill Clinton. Scheduled to arrive at the Harrell Building Friday morning at 8 a.m., supporters of Mr. Clinton waited more than an hour for his arrival. He has consistently been late for every event before, during and after his presidency. That is rude, inconsiderate and arrogant.—M.M.T., Texarkana, Texas
CHEERS: To Partnership for the Pathway for doing an excellent job of organizing the Run the Line half marathon last weekend. My husband and I had a wonderful experience from the start to finish. It was wonderful to see so much support from the runners of Texarkana and surrounding areas, evident by the number of entrants. It is even now even more obvious to me how much the trail would be utilized. We look forward to the completion of the trail and I will be training for next year’s race!—C.S., Texarkana, Ark. CHEERS: To Sam McJunkins for his persistence on making sure that a sex offender was not living near children. And a huge cheers to Judge Hudson. Making new laws is not the answer, having a judge that enforces the ones that we have is the answer. Cheers to both of you for trying to keep us and our children safe.—A.C., Texarkana, Ark. JEERS: To the Miller County office responsible for the signs needed for volunteers and medical personnel to be able to find homes when they have been called out to a 911 emergency. The private road (“PR”) signs in Miller County are few and far between and the ones that are there were put up by the residents on those roads. Why were addresses changed to accommodate a system that is of less use now than it was previously? Without roads clearly marked, signs posted and maintained, the 911 system has become just another failed attempt at progress and a waste of taxpayers’ money. I encourage everybody that lives on a Miller County private road or has a loved one who lives on one to call the Miller County judge’s office and request that appropriate signs be posted. Your very life or that of one you love could depend on that sign.—N.A., Texarkana, Ark. Cheers and Jeers are published each Saturday on the Opinion Page of the Texarkana Gazette. Cheers and Jeers must be limited to 100 words or less, and may be edited for length and legal considerations. No personal attacks, business/commercial, or consumer complaint Cheers or Jeers will be printed. You may submit your Cheers and Jeers to us at P.O. Box 621, Texarkana, TX 75504; by fax at (903) 794-3315; or by e-mail at opinion@texarkanagazette.com. Deadline for Saturday publication is noon Wednesday. Although only initials and the city and state are printed with each entry, we require each Cheer and Jeer to include the writer’s name, address, telephone number and signature. Submissions become the property of the Texarkana Gazette. Publication is limited to one entry per contributor within a 30-day period. |
