CHEERS: To the Red Lick ISD Board of Trustees and Dr. Richard Hervey who on Friday, June 27, 2008, overturned their vote of May 20th on renaming the Red Lick Middle School. I feel that the new gymnasium named for Dr. Hervey, as voted unanimously by the Board, is quite an honor and something in which the community can be in agreement. This would all have been eliminated if input had been taken before the vote. I personally commend the residents for their opinions, both pro and con on this issue. Democracy is still alive in this community and the people were heard. To those newcomers in Red Lick, the change in the name was no big deal but to those of us who have spent a lifetime here feel that a part of our heritage was being taken away. JEERS: To the SUV-driving woman who rammed into the back of our car one Friday evening on Texas Boulevard, smashed into it a second time, then sped away. Why couldn’t you have pulled over and exchanged insurance information like any reasonable, law-abiding person? Were you in that big of a hurry? Irresponsible people like you are the reason the rest of us have to pay such high premiums for insurance.
