Cheers and Jeers

JEERS: To the large gravel truck operators on the stretch of highway between New Boston and Foreman for failing to remove the loose gravel from the sides and framework of their trailers after loading. In the last eight months, I have had to replace the windshield in my pickup and already have a large crack in the upper right corner of the replacement. Just today I received the first ding in my 2009 car windshield and chipped paint on the hood from being “showered” by one of these monsters. An additional jeer goes to those speeding and traveling in groups of three or four.—L.B., Hooks, Texas

CHEERS: I would like to send a cheer to Trooper Munger. I have no idea what his first name is. I had a blowout near the Nash exit and was alone with my two daughters. Also, I am not from the area, so I was a bit uncomfortable in that situation. I called roadside assistance and they sent out Trooper Munger and he was so nice and changed my tire in the extreme heat and acted like he was glad to do it. I shook his hand and thanked him but for what he did for us, it just doesn’t seem like enough. I greatly appreciate him for helping me out. I know it’s his job but the great attitude he had doesnt necessarily have to come with the job. I am so grateful for officers like him.—T.M., Reno, Texas

JEERS: To the two vile and insidious letters of July 23 relating to Mr. Obama. Too bad the writers were unable to write how great the past eight years have been under this administration and why we need eight more of the same. We are in dire need of change and intelligent leadership.—J.B., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: To the Texarkana Gazette. When you ran the story on the man on the motorcycle on West Seventh being injured and taken to St. Michael you stated that he later died from his injuries, but when you retracted it saying he had not died but received the wrong information you stated from a “local and area hospital.” Why not say St. Michael? They are the one who gave out wrong information, not a local area hospital. Had it been Wadley, you would have said Wadley. I have been to both hospitals, I work at Wadley and Wadley is the superior hospital, new does not mean better and time and time again we have proved that. If you don’t think so, well, you have a right to your opinion but at least treat us fairly in the media.—T.AS., Texarkana, Texas

Editor’s Note: As was stated in the correction, the information that the man had died and the corrected information that he was still alive was furnished to the Gazette by the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department. The information was not provided to the Gazette by any hospital. We do not know where the police got the information. It was a TTPD spokesman who cited their source as “local and area hospitals.”

JEERS: To the planned hunting for wild hogs and rams in the paper July 11. My children would never be involved in killing animals for fun. I have taught them differently. These children were nine years of age and under and had big smiles on their faces as they posed with a dead ram, which will be discarded. This makes me very sad for the children and the animals. Adults, be careful what you teach your children.—M.P., Texarkana, Texas
