Cheers and Jeers

JEERS: To Judge McNatt of the Miller County Quorum Court for not permitting a registered citizen of Miller County to make comments at the Quorum Court meeting on July 21. I was led to believe that any citizen would be offered the opportunity to make comments if they were placed on the agenda one week earlier than the meeting, but at the meeting I was refused to be heard.—T.S., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: What is the driving force behind the actions of Molly Beth Malcolm? Frank Coleman has been an asset beyond reproach to TCC with many of his validated accomplishments chronicled in the Gazette. Compare the two and decide.—D.T., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: To the man driving the yellow Ferrari or Corvette who assisted my family recently when they were involved in a car accident in Texarkana.—M.O., Mena, Ark.

JEERS: To the five Texarkana College Board members who voted not to renew College President Frank Coleman’s employment contract. These five apparently think they know more about running a college than the current administration. For over 55 years Texarkana College has been a shining star at its current location in Texarkana. Thousands of students have started their college career at TC and many have been able to do so because of low tuition rates and scholarship help. Mr. Craven said he voted no “because our foundation ranks near the bottom.” Since he was president of the foundation, maybe he is the problem. As far as a recall petition for Ms. Molly B. Malcolm, I believe we should include all five “no” vote board members on the recall petition and let the voters decide who should represent the college.—J.L., Texarkana, Texas

JEERS: To the couple eating at a local restaurant on the evening of August 5th. As you were being seated in the back area of the restaurant you noticed my son, who is in a wheelchair. The look you gave him was not acceptable to us at all. Then you asked to be seated elsewhere because you did not want to dine in the booth beside our table, which would have been next to him. Not only did we notice what you said and did, but our two other children did, along with the other couple that were seated in that area. After your actions were noticed and we were leaving the couple remarked that we need to have a good day and ignore your ignorance .

I am just glad my son did not notice what you said and did. Because then you tell me how I would explain that. I expect that out of children that are too young to understand, but someone that is your age I don’t understand. I will pray that your wife doesn’t get sick because you may throw her out the door if this is how you treat people who are different.—R.F., Texarkana, Ark.
