Cheers and Jeers
JEERS: To the five members of the TC Board of Directors for failing to keep a man of high integrity, Frank Coleman, on the job as president. Once again, underhanded politics has cost a fine person his job. What a loss for Texarkana College, the faculty and the entire student body. Cheers to the four members of the TC Board of Directors who had the courage to vote yes to renewing and extending Frank Coleman’s contract. There are still some members of society who manage to make fair and honest decisions, despite “political pressure.”—M.C., Texarkana, Texas
JEERS: To the Texas-side street department for tearing up perfectly good lanes of traffic on New Boston Road. The eastbound and westbound outside lanes of the road were scraped down and then left that way for a few weeks now. I can understand having to put up with the road construction to improve roads, but why make a road worse shape and then leave it. Also how long has it been since Texas Boulevard was done the same way and then left there for us to suffer with.—W.H., Texarkana, Texas CHEERS: To R.F. of Texarkana, Ark., who voiced her opinion in the Cheers & Jeers section of the Gazette on Aug. 9, 2008, regarding her disabled son and the despicable behavior of the couple at a local restaurant. I have a disabled son and have faced many obstacles and people with bad behavior. This couple should not be graced with the presence and pleasure of dining in the same restaurant as your son. They are certainly in a class of their own and not a good one. Apparently the only thing they did was make a fool of themselves in front of the patrons at the restaurant. Fortunately, your son was not aware of their stupidity as my son has faced this type of behavior on many occasions. I pray for your son, God bless, and I wish him the best. As you, I pray this couple never has to endure sickness or accidents to one of their loved ones. I assure you no one is exempt from such tragedy no matter who they are.—S.R., Texarkana Ark. Cheers and Jeers are published each Saturday on the Opinion Page of the Texarkana Gazette.
