Cheers and Jeers

JEERS: I really do not know how my neighbors on Wade Trail feel about a “water park,” however I do know they would all like to see something done about the deplorable condition of our street. We have been begging for years to have it repaired and nothing has been done. How about some attention?—R.E.B. Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: To the City of Texarkana, Ark., that has its sights set on building a $13 million water park and spend $25,000 for a “feasibility study” concerning this venture. Where was this $25,000 when we had our last storm and the city did not have enough money to pick up tree limbs? If I read this article correctly, they want to pass a sales tax to pay for the park and then the city will reap the benefits if there are any. You could provide the city with a thriving business to operate and it would be in bankruptcy in six months.—D.H., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: To the Gazette’s editorial on “Greenspan’s Mistake” indicating that the free market system is fundamentally flawed because of greed and that is the reason for the current economic crisis. There was greed, but the fundamentally flawed system that was at play and failed dismally was socialism, not capitalism. The Democrats wanted to give houses to people who could not afford them. Nice thought, but socialism never works. Ask Cuba, North Korea and any other country that labors under that system. Taking from the “haves” to give to the “have nots” only leaves “have nots” and a government grown more powerful—S.M., Fouke, Ark.

JEERS: to the Downtown Post Office for never using enough personnel to man the front desk. Why have a place for four employees to work and only have two sometimes, more often only one person, waiting on customers? Also, just a suggestion, since neither of the machines work that used to dispense stamps in the lobby (hence no standing in long lines waiting) why not make one of the lines an express line only. Just for people who need to purchase postage stamps. Just a thought.—S.P., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: Double cheers to the Razorback Athletic Foundation for helping to start up TASD Arkansas Youth Shooting Sport. This is a trap shooting sport for junior high and high school students co-sponsored by Arkansas Game and Fish. Also cheers to the parents from North Heights Junior High for the support. Your interest and enthusiasm is overwhelming.—D.S., J.W., G.N. and B.B., Texarkana, Ark.
