Cheers and Jeers

JEERS: To the family on Nov. 16 for letting their dog run while in heat, causing my 10-year-old son’s small dog to get bit all up and had to drag his back legs. He could not walk the next morning and he died at the vet’s office. There should be a law in the country where homes that are close together must keep their female dogs put up or get them spayed. Have respect for other people’s pets, he was family to us.—R.W., Rondo, Ark.

JEERS: To the parents of Trice Elementary who decided it was OK for them to park in the fire lanes of the school during the Thanksgiving luncheon. It was very crowded and parking was limited, but this is no reason to park where emergency personnel couldn’t park if there had been an emergency. To make matters worse I approached an off-duty police officer who was there to have lunch with his children and brought to his attention that the fire lanes were being blocked. He simply shrugged his shoulders and told me in front of other parents and students that he was not a fireman and he only handled criminals then walked off laughing. I thought police officers stood to serve and protect. When are the police in this town going to realize it is a 24/7 job? I am thankful there was not an emergency during this time. I also realize it could’ve been announced over the intercom for these people to move their vehicles but it was not taken serious by anyone that was told this was happening outside.—P.W., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: To M.M.M. from Hooks about the resource officer for Hooks School District. Perhaps if you had attended the meeting on Friday night you would know that it was not approved. Furthermore, the school officials can only do so much to hold the students accountable when there is no discipline at home. It is not just a school issue. Maybe next time you should look at the whole picture before you blast someone for trying to solve the problem.—H.M., Hooks, Texas

JEERS: To whoever puts those Tony Alamo flyers on people’s cars while they are at work should not be allowed to do so. I passed by an apartment complex and a tall, slender gray-haired man was putting these flyers under windshield wipers faster than I could believe. They are out there doing this all hours of the day and night. It’s pretty bad when you come home from work at 10 p.m. and you have to get up in the morning to take your son to school and you have one on your window. All those things do is litter the parking lots and streets because nobody wants to read those things. If they were interested they would come to your pale and get one. If you wanted to cut down on the litter problem please make it to where they cannot come on private property and put that stuff on our vehicles.—A.K.T., Texarkana, Ark.
