Cheers and Jeers
CHEERS: To Mr. White for his letter, 12-15-08 “Separation of Church and state is a myth.” The Declaration of Independence says in part “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” Since the Founding Fathers were mostly Christians and most of the signers of this document were also: they would not have ever thought of separating religion (Christianity) from anything, let alone the government. It goes on to say “laws of nature and of nature’s God” This is the God of the Bible, the Father of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Merry Christmas.—R.W.H., Texarkana, Ark.
CHEERS: To a recently re-discovered treasure in Texarkana—the Texarkana Public Library. Have you been there lately? My family and I have been visiting more lately and accessing their services—we are very impressed with the line of services and selections they offer in books, computer access, videos/discs, periodicals, genealogy, and children’s, as well as other services they offer. They have an excellent children’s area. We are also very impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of the staff—if you have not been lately you will want to consider visiting for a great learning experience. Keep up the good work.—R.D.M., Texarkana, Ark. JEERS: To the Texarkana Gazette for not taking complaints from readers seriously about not reporting local news fair and accurate. It’s a credibility issue. They raised price of paper last year but did not raise the quality of reporting. They are here to serve the readers, and should be held accountable to readers, and respond to readers’ complaints. They need to ask rough questions and dig for all the facts. News is more than just headlines. They need to give the reader the whole story so they are informed. I don’t mind paying for better quality. Excellence counts.—D.M., Texarkana, Ark. JEERS: To those people that go to the 20 or less items checkout counter that have many many more items. You may see an open space at that time, but while the checker is checking you out, several of us that obey the rules are lined up behind you. Then some of you complain to the supervisors when the checkers say something about the limit of items, so they get into trouble. What is your problem? Especially this time of the year, we all are supposed to be kind to each other. And many of you don’t look embarrassed by your lack of manners.—B.A.B., Texarkana, Texas JEERS: To The Texarkana Symphony Orchestra. I purchased my tickets two weeks in advance to one of the December 20th performances at FUMC. We had to stand for the entire performance. Jeers for selling more tickets than available seats.
