Cheers and Jeers
CHEERS: To the many people that gathered up “their goodies” to sell on the 5/6 June Highway 82 Garage Sale. And, especially to those between Malta and DeKalb as we certainly enjoyed their items. A good time seemed to be had by the sellers and the many buyers. (We made it to Reno.) We hope to see all of you again next year and many new participants.—B.B., Texarkana, Texas
JEERS: To the parents of the children that are allowed to walk and play in the streets of Fouke, Ark. I cannot believe the irresponsibility on your part. Do you have any idea how easily one of your children could be hurt, abducted or killed? Streets are not playgrounds. You cannot drive down Main Street in our town without dodging children. There should not be children walking or riding their bikes, dirt bikes or four-wheelers. I saw three little girls (alone) walking down the side of the highway. I would guess the oldest to be around ten years old. This is simply not acceptable. Those are precious little girls that have no business walking down a major highway alone. Also there was a little boy on a bike crossing Highway 71. He looked to be around five years of age. Once again not acceptable. Parents, it is your responsibility to keep your children safe. It should go without saying to get them off the streets.—M.J., Fouke, Ark. JEERS: I could not believe my eyes when I opened up the Gazette Friday, May 29th. The poor lady displayed had just found out that her daughter and unborn grandbaby were dead. The look of utter anguish in her eyes was not something to be publicized. How unfeeling and uncaring can you get?—E.C., Texarkana, Ark. JEERS: To the Texarkana Gazette for Friday, May 29th’s front page picture depicting a mother who had just learned of her daughter’s death. I cannot think of one thing in life that would be more devastating that learning of your child’s death and yet the Gazette decided to capture that moment forever and publish the picture on the front page. Shame on you.—A.G., Texarkana, Texas JEERS: To the article written by Leonard Pitts Jr., dated June 6, in the Texarkana Gazette. Mr. Pitts assumes that all white people are just like the few people he describes in his article. I, like many others, treat people as individuals. You can find good and bad people everywhere around the world regardless of race, color or creed. In order for us to all come together as one, we must all treat each other as individuals and not expect special treatment because of things that have happened in the past that no one today had any control over. We can not change the past, we can only learn from it and move forward. Instead of creating unity between the races, this article will only drive a wedge of animosity between them. I would appreciate if he would write something to inspire and unite our future generations. I believe if you live negative, you breed negative. Think about it.—M.B., Atlanta, Texas JEERS: To M.M. May 09 for saying “Bush wasn’t anything and left a ‘big mess’” and M.M. went on to say “Are you watching MSNBC news about the ‘tortures’ Bush and Cheney carried out?” A lot of the “mess” was created by the Democrats two years before and just because Bush did not leave things in great shape does not mean President Obama has to make it a whole lot worse. Speaker Pelosi and other ranking Democrats knew what we were doing and it was OK, but now that someone says that “torture” was bad, now she says she did not know. She needs to resign because she is either incompetent or a liar. And it was not “torture” we have been doing that to our service members for decades, what they do to us is “torture.” I can understand the lack of knowledge on this subject considering the source that was quoted, MSNBC.—R.W.H., Texarkana, Ark. |
