Cheers and Jeers

JEERS: To all the thoughtless people who want dogs when they are cute puppies, only to dump them on the side of the road when they grow up. Do you even stop to consider what will happen to them? If they are lucky, someone with more heart than you will take them in. Most aren’t! They starve, get run over, shot, or left waiting for help till it’s too late. Do the right thing if you no longer want them and take them to the animal shelter. Give them a better chance of finding a good home than they would if you dumped them.—J.S., Texarkana, Ark.

CHEERS: To Faith Baptist Church and their Angel Food program. Everyone is eligible to purchase food, the food is yummy, convenient and very affordable. Unlike forcing people to listen to loud, unpleasant noise, the Angel Food program is a welcomed gift to the community. I have a theory that when we all are waiting at the pearly gates to get in, people who do really kind, beneficial things get to go to the head of the line. Amen.—A.W., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: I attended the Arkansas-side Board of Directors meeting a few weeks ago to join others in protesting the recent water rate increase. We can be thankful for Ms. Davis and Mr. Harris for their bold and courageous efforts in their fight against the increase. However well-intentioned the meeting was, it was a futile effort, doomed to fail from the outset because the other board members had already chosen sides in this fight—and the side they chose was the Texarkana Water Utilities, not the people they are supposed to represent. Folks, the only way to fix this problem is to replace the other four board members come election time. And I think Mr. Hall, who coordinated this whole effort, would be an excellent mayoral candidate.—S.S., Texarkana, Ark.

CHEERS: The faculty and staff at Fouke Elementary would like to give a Cheer to our dedicated parents for their time and effort in making Teacher Appreciation Week so special.—M.C., Fouke, Ark.
