Cheers and Jeers

JEERS: To R.B., Texarkana, Texas, in the Saturday, Oct 31, newspaper. This person must be in La-La land. Fox News has more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined. They are the only one that asks tough questions, are fair and balanced and not in the pocket of Obama and Co.—M.M., Texarkana, Texas

JEERS: To the Texarkana Gazette. Once again, your priorities are confusing. As I look at today’s issue (Monday Nov. 2) there is a large colorful picture of fall trees, leaves, etc. on the front page and a large picture of Michael Jackson together with a “full page” of the same further in. I wonder why the same coverage wasn’t given to the Buddy Walk held Saturday, Oct. 31, at Bobby Ferguson Park? There was a single picture and article on the inside of the paper. Nothing should take priority over the coverage of the local events to raise awareness and support for these worthy causes. Let Michael Jackson and the fall leaves take a back seat to wonderful, caring people willing to give their time and money back to this amazing town. Let us see something positive on the front page. We can wait to turn the page to get the bad news.—S.P., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: To R.B. of Texarkana, Texas, who sounded off in the Oct 31st Cheers and Jeers section of the Texarkana Gazette. R.B. does not believe in freedom of speech, thus made an attack on the Texarkana Gazette for writing an editorial about Fox News Network. R.B. implied that only the very stupid people in America watch Fox News.

It has been my experience that the people who watch Fox News on a regular basis are intelligent patriotic citizens who are concerned with what is going on in Washington, D.C. They are fearful that the Obama administration is in the process of dismantling our country as we have known it. President Obama should rightfully be concerned about what is happening. President Obama will learn that it’s much easier to spread the misery than to share the wealth.—J.H., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: To the Gazette for presenting factual information about Fox News. I watch the news media and read the publications that present the truth and let the chips fall where they may. If you partake of too much of the Liberal Kool-aid you are blinded to the facts. Facts really mess up liberal thinking. Liberals think they have all the answers and facts just get in the way. People that think for themselves rely on facts, that’s why I personally watch Fox and read the Gazette. I was also taught in the elementary school what propaganda is and find it quite useful when listening to this current Democratic Administration.—G.S., Atlanta, Texas

JEERS: To the coward dispensing convicted Tony Alamo literature on cars parked in a parking lot on New Boston Road on Nov. 2. When I told you you were breaking the law, you hurriedly put a few more under windshields, jumped into your truck and left.

If you are doing the will of God, why are you so afraid to get caught doing it?—C.V.R., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: To the officials at Arkansas High and Liberty-Eylau schools—and this comes from a Texas High supporter. It is so neat that AHS loaned their football stadium to L-E for Friday night’s game. This was due to unplayabe conditions at L-E due to recent rains. What a great example of two public entities working to help one another. May I sugest that L-E/AHS leadership arrange a meeting with the city managers of Texarkana, Arkansas/Texas, and explain how working together benefits all of Texarkana.—R.M., Texarkana, texas

JEERS: To the person(s) who stole a blue and white 1 gallon flip-top cooler from our curbside on Ashleigh Circle last Tuesday, which is a trash pickup day. It was on our curb behind our trash container and clearly marked “Do not Take,” “Private Property,” “For Waste Management Crew Only” and several verses of scripture written by my wife. We have provided the Waste Management crews with bottled water and snack crackers for years as thanks for their service. I had to put the water and crackers in a plastic Wal-Mart bag with a note to them that you had stolen the Igloo. After they finished their round I noticed they had left the paper with the note. On the back they had written,”We will pray for them.” They are better men than I. Word to the wise: Don’t let me catch you stealing the next one.—M.M., Wake Village, Texas

JEERS: To the Texarkana College Board of Trustees who recently voted to increase the tuition/fees for all students. Based on the figures furnished by the Gazette, a student taking an average course load of 12 semester hours will see a cost increase of approximately 50%. It appears from the article that Dr. Rasco has an agenda of surrounding himself with highly paid vice presidents at the expense of the student. Regardless of where Texarkana College stands on the course load cost ladder of Texas, this appears to be rather excessive.—J.L., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: To the Robert St. John Band. This group deserves a lot of accolades. They have for several years performed far more benefits than any group of people in or around Texarkana. When asked to raise money, whether it is for someone or something, Robert St. John (Scott Morton) is ready to give a helping hand. He says his entire band is always ready to help. Texarkana is lucky to have such a great group, and they deserve all the cheers we can give them. They performed for the Humane Society on the 25th at Fat Jacks and raised a large amount of money. Cheers, cheers, and more cheers.—B.B., Texarkana, Ark.

CHEERS: The latest Tyler Perry movie has the best movie title I have ever heard. It’s right on. “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” is a great movie. It symbolizes what America has become. A country where men are not a part of a lot of families. They get them pregnant and think fatherhood stops there, when it actually just begins. Ladies, sorry, men are a dime a dozen. Isn’t it time you moved on to a man that will love, appreciate, and take care of you and your (their) kids?—J.K., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: To Arkansas City Manager Harold Boldt, who refuses to succumb to the dictatorship of Texas-side government. He has shown us how an honest leader uses integrity while correctly following the law in the TWU and Director Bill King situation.—C.H., Texarkana, Texas
