Why is it that after taking 70 years to totally dismantle Glass-Stegal and other regulations on Wall Street, now we have 15 minutes to sign the big blank check? We must not take time to read the fine print. Bad sign. The lenders used to be required to have 10 percent capitalization; now they probably have only 2 percent. Borrowers used to be required to put up a sizable down payment. We used to call that good business practice. I also know builders were encouraged to build huge homes because the easy loan policies made them easy to foist on working-class buyers.
