Dear Heloise: In response to preparing for hurricane season, please add this to your list: If you have to evacuate and have friends or family in another area or out of state, make sure they are aware of where you could be or if they might even have room for you.

My mom had to evacuate three times while living in Florida. Fortunately for her, my sister and brother both lived in areas where she was able to relocate with her pet, and knowing this made evacuation easier for her and on me, too, because I knew she and her pet both had a safe place to go.—C.
