Olivia tilted her blond head and gave a quizzical look. The child is so jolly that her infrequent frowns stop you in your tracks.

“That’s a really big dress,” she said, pointing at the purple garment I had hung on the door of a guest room at my parents’ house.

I looked at it, trying not to take her comment personally. It was a really big dress, long and unbuttoned to its maximum girth. I guess when you wear a child’s size 4, such a dress looks enormous.
