CPS files for custody of brothers thrown from overpass by mother
The Associated Press
DALLAS—Child Protective Services on Friday filed for custody of two boys whose mother is accused of throwing them off a freeway overpass into rush-hour traffic before jumping herself. The younger of the boys, a 6-year-old, was placed in a foster home after his release from a Dallas hospital late Thursday, said Marissa Gonzales, a CPS spokeswoman. The 8-year-old remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, Gonzales said. She said the agency chose foster care over several family members who were considered. Both were thrown onto Interstate 30 near downtown before dawn Wednesday. The boys’ mother, 27-year-old Khandi Busby, remained in custody at a hospital and is facing a charge of attempted murder and injury to a child, police said.
