Mother, 2 children among 4 dead after head-on collision
BASTROP, Texas—A mother and two of her children were among four people killed in a head-on collision in Central Texas, authorities said.
Two other family members were injured when the sport utility vehicle they were in was hit head-on by another SUV that drifted into their path on Texas 304 shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger. Cara Crisler, 27, died Wednesday morning at an Austin hospital, Vinger said. Two of her daughters — 8-year-old Kelsey Harris and 4-year-old Talena Harris — died Tuesday. Darrell Avery, the 38-year-old driver of the other SUV, also died. A witness reported that he was driving erratically before the crash, Vinger said. A third daughter, 6-year-old Marissa Harris, remained hospitalized Wednesday, Vinger said. He said Kevin Harris, the 31-year-old father of the girls, was released from a hospital. Avery and Crisler were wearing seat belts but the others weren’t, according to a preliminary report. The accident is under investigation, Vinger said. Bastrop is about 30 miles east of Austin.
