Family members killed in drive-by shooting in Big Spring
BIG SPRING, Texas—The death of a pregnant woman, her unborn child and a man killing in a drive-by shooting was believed to be gang-related, authorities said.
Valerie Garcia, 20, and her unborn child died. Michael Cardona, 21, died later at the hospital. Four others — including a 3-year-old girl — sustained non-life threatening injuries in the Sunday night shooting, Big Spring police said in a news release. Police say they believe the shooting was gang related. Family members were outside when a car described as a dark Ford pickup pulled up and the shooting began. Police say there is more than one suspect. “We were a family, we weren’t a gang,” Jessica Rios, Garcia’s sister-in-law, said in a story for Tuesday’s Odessa American. “Them other people were a gang, we weren’t. We were just a really big family. We always do everything together.” Featured Texarkana Business Directory Articles Featured Texarkana Business Directory Coupons
