Trooper prep set for Arkansas students
The fourth annual Arkansas State Police Preparatory Trooper Academy will be July 13-18 at the state police training academy in Little Rock.
Applications will be accepted from high school sophomores, junior and seniors at the time their application is submitted. “It is our long-range hope that many of the successful academy graduates will return after college to pursue a career as an Arkansas state trooper,” said Major Kathy Sparks, commander of the department’s administrative services division. During the one-week academy sessions, participants will experience some of the same training regimens as adult recruits, including daily room inspections, physical training, drill and ceremony, classroom sessions and practical exercises. Applicants must: n Be Arkansas residents. n Possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license. n Be enrolled as a high school sophomore, junior or senior at the time of application. n Have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. n Have proof of current medical insurance. n Possess a physician’s certificate of ability to participate. n Agree to a criminal and traffic history check. n Present two letters of recommendation (one must be from a school official). n Complete an application and interview.
