Gas prices in Arkansas continued their upward climb Wednesday, averaging a record $3.83 for a gallon of unleaded gasoline.

Nationally, the average price approached the $4 mark, averaging $3.944 a gallon, also a record, according to the AAA.

Arkansas’ average Wednesday was up 33 cents from a month ago and 71 cents from the same time last year. Among the state’s metropolitan areas, Fort Smith had the priciest gas, at $3.88 a gallon, according to the AAA, formerly the American Automobile Association.
