PASADENA, Texas—A Pasadena man who shot and killed two men he suspected of burglarizing his neighbor’s home last year regrets the action, his attorney says.

Joe Horn, 61, killed Hernando Riascos Torres, 38, and Diego Ortiz, 30. The incident touched off protests from minority activists that were met by counter-protests from Horn’s supporters.

A Harris County grand jury is hearing evidence in the case this week and a spokesman said a decision could come by the end of the week.

Horn first called 911 to report a burglary, and a dispatcher repeatedly told Horn to stay inside.

On a tape of the call, Horn can be heard threatening the two men, who were both shot in the back.
