HOUSTON—A 29-year-old woman is dead after several drivers, including an off-duty police officer, struck her as she ran across a freeway in Houston.

The woman, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Authorities say she ran into traffic along U.S. 59 at the West Loop.

The officer’s Chevrolet Lumina, a Ford van and two or three other vehicles hit the woman before she died, the Houston Chronicle reported in its online edition Sunday. Only the officer and van driver remained at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
