Extension denied for work to resume on Beaver Lake condo
BENTONVILLE, Ark.—Developers of a condominium tower proposed along the shore of Beaver Lake have been denied their request for a time extension to resume work on the project.
The Benton County Planning Board voted unanimously to deny the extension for the Grandview Heights at Beaver Lake project. The developers can appeal the decision or resubmit plans for approval. The permit expires Monday. Originally, builders wanted to construct three 25-story condo towers at the site. The proposal was scaled down to one 15-story tower and won approval from the commission in 2005. Opponents argued the development on the 175-acre parcel would stress police and fire services and the availability of wastewater services. Opponents also cited concerns about traffic and the effect the towers would have on the view. E&S Development of New York asked for a two-year extension. Attorney Courtney Little, representing E&S, said legal actions delayed construction work, and the economic downturn tightened lending and credit. Those two factors left the project with unfinished roads and little progress during the past year. Little said that the developers will decide over the next couple of weeks how to proceed.
