WACO, Texas —Waco police say a woman is accused of trying to kill her now-ex-husband just hours after their divorce was final.

Gayla Valdez-Lind remained in the McLennan County Jail on Thursday on an attempted murder charge. Bond is $250,000.

A jail official who spoke to The Associated Press declined to release information about an attorney for Valdez-Lind.

Mike Valdez wasn’t hurt in Tuesday’s incident. He and his ex-wife are 49.

Police say officers arrived at the scene to find the woman holding a pistol and her ex-spouse taking cover behind a car near the home they had shared.

Officers believe the argument broke out just after the couple returned from court, where their divorce was finalized.
