Newspaper circulation manager dies in office
WICHITA FALLS, Texas—A longtime Texas newspaper circulation manager collapsed and died at his office at the Wichita Falls Times Record News on Thursday, the paper’s publisher said.
Don Boyd was 56. Colleagues who attempted to revive him said he suffered an apparent heart attack. Boyd had been circulation director of the newspaper since 2005, when he transferred back to Texas from another Scripps newspaper in Tennessee. “Don was a great man. He was very good to work with,” said Times Record publisher Darrell Coleman, who last saw Boyd on Wednesday when he appeared to be doing fine. “He really knew the circulation business.” “People really loved him,” the publisher said. “His world was pretty good. We were celebrating having all our carrier routes filled, which is tough to do when gas prices are so high.” Boyd began his circulation career in 1989 as regional manager for the Dallas Times Herald and worked as home delivery manager for The Dallas Morning News. He held circulation management positions with the Rocky Mountain News in Denver and Memphis Commercial Appeal. Boyd is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.
