Robber gets nearly six years in prison
SAN ANTONIO—A man who had what appeared to be a bomb strapped to his body as he robbed a San Antonio bank must serve nearly six years in prison.
A federal judge Thursday sentenced 38-year-old Raymond D. Abreu Jr. to 57 months behind bars over the January holdup. Abreu received an additional 12-month term for revocation related to a prior conviction for use of interstate facilities in aid of racketeering enterprises. Abreu, who pleaded guilty in June, also must pay $70,000 in restitution. Further details on the device strapped to his body were not immediately available from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. An accomplice, Richard Anthony Ryan, earlier pleaded guilty to bank robbery and faces up to 20 years in federal prison. Ryan will be sentenced later this year.
