School bus driver charged with DWI after accident
MIDLAND, Texas—A West Texas school bus driver faces driving while intoxicated charges after police said she was under the influence of prescription drugs when she rear-ended a car while taking three pre-kindergarten students to school Tuesday.
Midland police booked Susan Spear, 50, into the Midland County Detention Center on three felony charges of DWI with a child under 15 years of age. She is accused of driving her school bus into the back of a Volkswagen Jetta while transporting the students, who were each about 4 years old, a teacher’s assistant and a bus monitor to the West Early Childhood Center. No one was injured. Spear does not yet have an attorney and no bond has been set, according to jail records. Midland school district spokesman Woodrow Bailey said Spear is on administrative leave pending the completion of a police and district investigation.
