WICHITA FALLS, Texas—A small plane crashed into the front lawn of a church near a Wichita Falls airport Sunday, killing the pilot.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports witnesses said the plane appeared to be on final approach to land at Kickapoo Downtown Airport when it crashed about 9 a.m. Sunday. The body of the pilot was found in the wreckage of the green and white single-engine aircraft 50 yards in front of the Woodhaven Baptist Church.

Investigators were withholding the pilot’s name until relative could be notified.
