AUSTIN—Texas Department of Transportation officials say Hurricane Ike didn’t cause any structural damage to the Interstate 45 causeway between Houston and Galveston, but the storm did cause significant damage to the main route across Bolivar Peninsula.

TxDOT spokesman Chris Lippincott said Sunday’s aerial review of roadways in the Galveston-Houston area showed efforts to clear debris from state-maintained roadways was nearly complete. He said bridge experts will inspect the causeway to confirm what weight limits it can handle.
