Water restored to portion of Texas peninsula

BEAUMONT, Texas—Water service is being restored to a portion of the Bolivar Peninsula, a week after it was devastated by Hurricane Ike.

Beaumont TV station KFDM reported Sunday that the Bolivar Peninsula Special Utility District has restored service to about 230 customers on High Island. It has a total of about 6,200 customers on the Bolivar Peninsula.

Utility district General Manager Jennifer McKnight told the station the milestone was reached following an inspection of the generator and other assessments. McKnight says she sees “some light at the end of the tunnel.”
