Pilgrim’s Pride cutting 100 more jobs in Arkansas plant
EL DORADO, Ark.—Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. says another 100 positions will be cut at its El Dorado operation, in addition to the 600 already eliminated.
The company said Monday the 100 positions are on the eviscerating line at its chicken processing plant. The cuts will be effective Nov. 21. Pilgrim’s Pride spokesman Ray Atkinson says the Pittsburg, Texas-based company laid off 450 El Dorado workers and cut another 150 open positions to eliminate the 600 positions. Pilgrim’s is consolidating the tray-pack chicken portion, or back-end operations, of the El Dorado plant as part of an overall plan to improve efficiencies. Like Springdale-based Tyson Foods, Pilgrim’s Pride has seen its costs soar with high prices for fuel and feed. Atkinson said the cuts were needed to keep the company profitable.
